Two online marijuana shipment businesses are under investigation by Denver’s Better Business Bureau. On June 15, 2017, the BBB announced that it was investigating Denver Marijuana and Denver Smoke Buds for illegally mailing marijuana, among other reasons.

The marijuana shipment businesses are illegal as it is a violation of both state and federal law to mail marijuana; plus, both businesses list fake addresses and neither are registered with the Colorado Secretary of State.

In addition to mailing marijuana and marijuana-related products, Denver Marijuana claims to sell bath salts and research chemicals. The business is also under investigation for trademark infringement for previously and falsely listing “BBB Accreditation” on its website as well as displaying a “100% satisfaction guarantee” seal online.

Denver Smoke Buds is being investigated for mailing marijuana and marijuana-derived products, but it is also being investigated for claiming to have won marijuana awards from Colorado Springs Gazette and Colorado Springs Independent and for falsely advertising supposed relationships with legal dispensaries and research partners.

As the Golden State prepares to roll out new medical and recreational regulations on Jan. 1, 2018, a recent California cannabis study has estimated that all of that preparation will result in a $5 billion windfall for the state’s legal market.

On June 12, 2017, ASTM International, an international voluntary consensus standards organization, announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Foundation of Cannabis Unified Standards, indicating that the two organizations will collaborate in developing cannabis standards for the legal cannabis industry.

It seems the advent of the Trump Administration has yet to dissuade banks from serving state-legal marijuana businesses. According to a marijuana banking update issued by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, a growing number of financial institutions are banking marijuana money in the United States.
