A man is under police guard in hospital after crashing his car into several other vehicles in Melbourne’s CBD overnight, causing significant damage.

The drama unfolded when police stopped a car on Exhibition Street shortly after midnight.

As police approached the driver he sped off and later sideswiped a car on St Kilda Road before hitting a second car at traffic lights, which then struck a motorcyclist.

His rampage came to an end when he crashed into several parked cars and a van in Southbank.

A 24-year-old man and two 20-year-old women were arrested at the scene.

The women have been released pending further investigation.

No one else was injured.
