@MJINews: Georgia House Approves #Marijuana Treatment Expansion

On March 28, 2017, the Georgia House approved Senate Bill 16, a bill that would increase the number of conditions eligible for receiving medical marijuana oil as treatment.

Of the six new conditions added to the list, Tourette’s Syndrome, AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease and autism are just a few that are included.

“I’m grateful we’ve moved the ball,” said Rep. Allen Peake, a sponsor of several medical marijuana bills, according to 11alive.

The Senate will have to approve SB 16 by Thursday before it can head to Gov. Nathan Deal to be signed.

News 4 reported that along with the new qualifying conditions, “anyone in a hospice program, regardless of diagnosis, will be allowed access to marijuana oil that’s low on THC.”

The bill agrees to let marijuana oil preserve its 5% THC strength, a compromise made by Senate and House members.

“We’re not there yet. We still have a huge issue of, where do we access the product. And until we deal with that we’re still going to be shortchanging our citizens in some respects,” Peake added.

MJINews was started to aggregate, report and opine on various ways to make money in the legal marijuana industry. While medical marijuana has been legal in many states for years, its legalization for recreational use in Colorado and Washington in 2014 has catapulted the entire subject to new heights.
